Dunmore East is a small fishing village on
the south-east coast of Ireland, 16kms from
the city of Waterford.
It sits on the western side of the Waterford
Harbour Estuary, 4.8kms from Hook Head in
Wexford.

captains sailed up the Waterford estuary, with instructions to land at Hook
Head or Crooke village, further up the estuary.

TRUE OR FALSE?
Martin Glanville was the last Lighthouse Keeper at Dunmore East
Light.
The Weather Cock on top of John and Jean Kelly's house at the
Haven Hotel has been perforated by bullets shot into it by The ‘Black
and Tans'
True, according to Michael O'Connor! "The weather cock at the
Haven Hotel private residence is perforated by bullet holes, however
they are not the work of the I.R.A.They were put there by one Jimmy
Courtney ably assisted by my good-self Michael O' Connor sometime
in 1960. (Jimmy Courtney was bar manager in the Haven when Dick
Ballintine was the proprietor)"
The first Dunmore Chip Shop was on the quay in the old stores which
were demolished by the Board of Works
Ned Farrell RIP was in his younger years a courier for the old IRA. He
would take communication messages from different groups hidden in
the rubber handlebar grips of a bicycle.
Paddy and Diana O'Regans RIP cottage at Coxtown Cross (sold in
the mid eighties) was the only cottage of that time to have its
electricity supply underground. This was to facilitate aircraft landings
by Arthur Pitt which sometimes necessitated a northerly approach,
the fear being the bold Sir Arthur would become entangled in any
overhead electric wires. But, what about the chimney? should it not
also have been removed, and the roof, and the -----

Who owned a Lanz Bulldog tractor that was so powerful it was

Lighthouse it would pull it up the pier when the engine hit the ‘double
stroke' of its revolutions.

and you will see that I nearly flew into the
communications mast at the Garda
barracks!
